There is a wealth of "user friendly" information regarding how our brains work and how to build cognitive capacity. They provide a checklist that should be used to evaluate any program that claims they have an effective brain training program or app. The website is filled with brain science information and practice activities and brain teasers. Even though most are geared towards 12-adult, parents can find them useful and learn a lot about cognitive function.
National Geographic Kids
The National Geographic Kids Club has everything. From teaching kids about the planets to book recommendations, this club has it all. . It's completely free with plenty of activities.

Hink pinks are an excellent source for brain exercises. Hink Pinks are fun rhyming word riddles. The answer to the riddle is a pair of words that rhyme with each other. There are 39 pages of hink pinks!
